A New Service Of Presbyterian Support |

Homeshare is an established shared living programme which has been running successfully in the United States, across Europe and in Australia for over two decades. A single older person provides a younger person with accommodation with their own room In return for the accommodation the younger person (homesharer) helps with household tasks for up to 8 hours a week. An Enliven Homeshare Coordinator carefully matches both the older person and the younger person,After interviewing both parties and checking the younger person's references, both parties are introduced to each other. It is a safe service - all care and attention is taken to ensure a good 'match'. Enliven Positive Aging was launched Enliven Homeshare in Hawke's Bay on the April 10th. | |
"Currently there are limited options which allow people (as they become older) to remain in their own homes" says Faith Turner Manager of Enliven non clinical services. . "They may have begun to feel unsafe overnight or their families may have expressed feeling concerned that they are vulnerable or lonely. An Enliven Homeshare Coordinator will arrange to meet with people in their homes and establish how best we can match them with a security checked Homesharer. " "We can discuss with older people ways in which a Homesharer could enable you to remain in your home by sharing it. In exchange for accommodation the Homesharer will make a small contribution to the cost their room, and share the costs of telephone, power and food and will provide support with daily tasks that you are no longer able to complete." adds Faith Turner. "The Enliven Homeshare Coordinator is available to discuss this exciting but simple way of remaining in your own home by home sharing... ". If you feel that this is something you or a family member could benefit from contact Deborah Biggs. |

There's no place like home! |
 | Enliven Homeshare is a brilliantly simple idea! It brings two people together who both benefit from each other, and both have something to offer. For those of us with a single older parent, how many times have we wondered how they are at night on their own, and if we live far away, do we wonder if they are lonely at times? It's quite common nowadays for grown up children to move overseas to exciting new jobs and opportunities, and often times that means an older parent remaining behind with no close family support as they age. Enliven Homeshare matches an older person with a spare room who would like some company and help in the home with a younger person who might be studying full time, or working and who needs accommodation and would enjoy the company of an older person, and is able to provide some assistance. | Homeshare is a kind of 'professionally matched' flatting service, and just like in any flatting situation, the homesharer is expected to 'pitch' in with chores. Homesharers are carefully and robustly selected and reference checked for suitability as a homesharer by the Enliven Homeshare Coordinator who also provides a monitoring and support service to new matches. Families find that Homeshare provides peace of mind for them, knowing that a loved parent has company and someone in the house at night. Sharing a house, meals and companionship can have a marked positive effect on a older person's health. For the householder homesharing may mean being able to stay in their own home for longer with a beloved pet and in a community they enjoy. Many homesharers enjoy the stability of living with an older person in a homelike environment, and living in good quality accommodation, particularly if they are on a low income. Lots of good friendships develop between householders and homesharers and their families, which has seen the continued growth of Homeshare since it started in the US 23 years ago. Enliven has taken the best of the worlds knowledge of homeshare and developed the Enliven Homeshare for older people here in New Zealand. |

 | Enliven Homeshare is a partnership between a householder - usually an older person with a spare room, and a homesharer, generally a younger person of integrity, or an overseas or mature student. In return for a low rent room the homesharer provides help within the household. Is Enliven Homeshare for you? If you are a householder, please contact the Enliven Homeshare Coordinator - Deborah Biggs who will explain everything about Homeshare. If you want to go further, the coordinator will visit you to discuss your needs, so as to find the best possible match for you. If you are a homesharer, please contact the Enliven Homeshare Coordinator - Deborah Biggs who will ask you for some information about yourself and arrange a meeting to discuss everything in detail. Both the householder and homesharer will have ongoing support from the Enliven Homeshare Coordinator. |
